The School

Glad Tidings Bible Institute contributed immensely to the ministry of the Temple throughout the years of its association from 1919 to 1952.

The success of Glad Tidings Training Institute began by Mrs. Craig [Affectionately called "Sister Craig] to establish new converts in the faith and qualify aspiring workers in the Word, led to the purchase of property and construction of the six-story building. It was the first unit of the Glad Tidings complex on the east side of Ellis Street.

By the time the new facilities were completed the format of the coeducational school was beginning to emerge. Students were encouraged to gain an appreciation for the Bible by systematic study and acquaintance with accepted methods in interpretation. In addition, applied ministries, like music and rhetoric, were taught as part of professional preparation. A third area, practical ministry was given an important place as students participated in a wide range of activities associated with the Temple.  In 1952 the Institute relocated in Santa Cruz where in 1955 it became Bethany Bible  College. The school had for over 30 years blessed the church and was blessed by the church. Glad Tidings remains today a staunch supporter of the school born out of its ministry.

Pastor Forrest’s father attended and graduated Glad Tidings Bible institute and later taught there for many years.  During his years  – at what has become Bethany University — he headed departments in Music and English. An accomplishment that continues to this day is the establishment of the traveling choir called “The Ambassadors.”

Pastor Forrest and his brother, David Beiser, graduated Bethany Bible College [Originally Glad Tidings Bible Institute now Bethany University].  David Beiser is the Pastor of the historic Sequoyah Community Church across the Bay Bridge in Oakland, California.

Below is a photo of the Santa Cruz campus in 2010 and “Craig Chapel” named for GT’s Founding Pastors.  It is the center point of Bethany today.
